Using savvy marketing tools to boost your website traffic

The internet is a world of opportunity. It is also a vast wasteland of websites left to wilt in the furthest reaches of the web where no eyes will wander, destined to be ignored forever. You see, creating and running a website is just the beginning. If you do nothing to promote it, nothing to spread the word about its existence, it will just sit there in cyberspace gathering internet dust. All roads lead to your website, but if you're not directing or guiding the traffic, potential customers will miss you by miles.

Therefore, in this newsletter, we're going to show you a few ways to pull in visitors to your site. Although they can make a real difference, they're not standalone suggestions. These activities need to be done alongside targeted online marketing endeavours such as search engine optimisation and Google Ads.

Spread the word through advertising

Add your website URL to every piece of advertising and promotional material with your business name, such as posters, flyers, press releases, brochures and newsletters. Likewise, include it on promotional material you give away, for example, pens, mouse mats and mugs. A daily reminder is a good way of keeping your website front of mind. If you own company vehicles, display the URL on side panels and have window stickers made up. If you sponsor community events, ensure your website is on any banner or other material bearing your company name.

Say it with your signature

This is a very quick and easy one. Your email signature is like a bumper sticker, a small piece of promotional real estate. It is best to have a branded signature made by a professional, however most email software includes a signature option. This allows you to create text that is automatically included at the end of your outgoing mails. An example might look like:

Yours sincerely,

John Smith
Telephone: 01 207 XXXX

Use your correspondence

Make sure you have branded stationery with your contact details and web address. Headed paper, business cards and compliment slips should all show your key information. This is a great way to get your website address out there without forcing the issue or making it promotional.

Include your URL on your voicemail greeting and on-hold message

During busy times and out of office hours, let people know they can find out more information and make enquiries by visiting your website.

Get social

There are dozens of social media sites out there, and the chances are you are on a least one of them. Promote your website by including a link in your social media profile and share links or photos from your site that could encourage others to reshare and repost them.

The last thing you want is for your website to be sitting idle. Everything we do at WEBPRO, from website creation and online marketing to choosing images, content and branding, is focused on improving rankings, increasing website traffic and converting.

Recap: Just having a website go live does not automatically mean you're going to appear on Google's first page. You have to work at it. This involves a combination of online and offline techniques.

PS: The most common reason why websites fail is because of a lack of visitors. Explore the potential of all your marketing channels to get the word out.
