Why your business needs search engine optimisation

Billions of searches are performed online every single day. No matter what business you're in, someone is looking for your products or services. However, a lot of content on the net doesn't even get seen. So how can you ensure your business is easily searchable and visible across the web? The answer is with search engine optimisation, or SEO for short.

SEO is the practice of increasing the quality and quantity of website traffic through organic search results. This is often the primary source of website traffic. SEO involves making changes to a website's content to make it more attractive to search engines by including relevant keyphrases.

In this month's newsletter, we'll look at how SEO can benefit your business.

Better ranking

When appropriately applied, search engine optimisation can help your website rank higher than those of your competitors in response to specific keyphrase searches. There is a joke that says, "Where would you hide something that you don't want anyone else to find?" Answer: "On page two of Google".

While that may sound funny, there's more than a hint of truth to it because, around 75% of people do not go beyond the first page of Google when they perform a search. Just think of your habits when you're looking for something online. How often do you go to the second, third, or even the fourth or fifth page?

With SEO, you can avoid ending up in these internet wastelands. The higher up you are, the greater the opportunity to generate more leads and, in turn, sales.

More quality traffic

Traditional outbound marketing involves reaching out to potential clients, whether they want to hear from you or not. However, inbound methods such as SEO make it easy for potential clients to find you when they’re looking for the products and services you offer. You’re making helpful information more easily accessible. And when your website is right up there in the search results, the chances of visitors clicking on it will increase.

Increase awareness and boost reputation

Search results that appear on the first page are deemed most relevant by the search engine. With this exposure, brand awareness increases as more people become familiar with your business and its products and services. Consumers have more confidence in brands that rank highly in their search results. Awareness and reputation have a direct impact on sales and success.

Affordable marketing

More prominent players in your industry may have much deeper pockets for marketing than you, but that doesn't mean you can't become just as visible. Sure, they may be able to outspend you on Google Ads, but with a well thought out SEO strategy, you can appear high in search results without having to spend a fortune on ad space.

Long-lasting results

Adverts last for the length of a marketing campaign. Once you stop spending money on them, they're gone. However, if you maintain your SEO efforts, you can continue to rank highly in search engines for a considerable length of time.

Recap…SEO is a powerful and cost-effective marketing tool that can get your message in front of potential clients searching for the products and services you offer.

PS: SEO marketing strategies are typically a medium to long-term solution that can help your business meet its objectives. The results are not immediate, but they don't automatically stop when the campaign is over like those of Google Ads. At WEBPRO, we will always assess whether SEO is the right way forward for you, based on your goals and the marketplace in which you operate.
