We have news for you: SEO is not for everyone

You’ll probably receive emails every day from SEO consultants or marketing agencies promising you the world if only you invest in SEO. They often promise overnight results, however when you do SEO right it can take a while to see a return.

Perhaps you’re working on SEO in house, investing budget and not seeing a return on investment. We have news for you, SEO might not be the right choice for your business.

This is because SEO relies on so many different factors, such as timescale, budget, competition, goals, locality and traffic, to name just a few. It makes investment in SEO such a unique decision for each individual business.

Here at WEBPRO we always do what is best for your business. We look closely at your SEO goals and advise with honesty and integrity on what we feel is the best approach. To help you start considering whether SEO is right for you, see the five pointers we’ve put together below:

You need to grow locally

Depending on the kind of business you run, it might be that you do need SEO but perhaps not the kind you’ve been investing in. For businesses such as restaurants, they need to invest in local SEO. This means trying to focus efforts on coming up when people search ‘Thai restaurants near me’ for example. Listing on business sites and building up location authority so you’re a trusted and high result in Google maps might be more beneficial.

Targeting keywords few people search

When you check the volume on the keywords you want to target, for example ‘freelance tax specialist Suffolk’, it might be that it’s only a small amount of searches each month. Spending money then to try and climb these rankings could be considered a waste? However, on the flip side, larger companies will invest serious money trying to target the most popular keywords and phrases. Therefore investing in keywords with smaller search volumes can sometimes be highly profitable, as you can more easily climb to page one. WEBPRO heavily research keywords for clients, and advise on where best to make their investment.

There is too much competition

If you’re targeting a search term that has a lot of competition then you will suddenly find that your budget won’t go far. Take the time to look at the CPC and weigh up how much a conversion would mean for your business and whether you feel it’s worth the investment. Also time is a consideration, it will take longer and spend more of your budget along the way.

You need quick results

It might take a while which isn’t great if you’re looking for quick results! When trying to rank for a keyword organically it can take months so it’s not the quick route. In which case you need to look for alternative routes that will help you grow business more quickly, perhaps PPC or social media.

Your website isn't ready for SEO

Finally you need to consider whether your website is ready for SEO. There is no point investing in SEO only for people to find your site and be disappointed by the content or the user experience. Equally if you invest in SEO and Google doesn’t like the way your website is set up then it won’t reward you with great rankings.

Here at WEBPRO we know firsthand that SEO isn’t right for every business. When we work with you, we’ll put together a feasibility report to help you understand what results you can expect in the short, medium and long term. We look together at your budget and what could be achieved, and if we think SEO isn’t right for you we’ll be sure to help you figure out what is. Call us today and we can find out together whether SEO is right for your business.
